Introduction

When discussing weak electrical engineering construction, we inevitably touch upon wiring. In weak current wiring, in addition to mastering wiring skills, we also need to have a clear understanding of accessories. For example, what is a wiring rack? Why do we need to use a wiring rack? Let's delve into this together.

I. Definition of Wiring Rack

A wiring rack is a device used to connect terminal user lines or relay lines and can adjust their connections. As an important component in the management subsystem, the wiring rack is the hub for implementing the cross-connection of vertical trunk and horizontal wiring subsystems. The wiring rack is usually installed in a cabinet or on a wall. Through the installation of accessories, the wiring rack can meet the full-line needs of UTP, STP, coaxial cable, fiber optic, audio and video. In network engineering, commonly used wiring racks include twisted pair wiring racks and fiber optic wiring racks. Depending on the location and purpose of use, wiring racks can be divided into two major categories: total wiring racks and intermediate wiring racks.

Purpose of Wiring Rack

The main function of the wiring rack is to modularly manage the front-end information points at the local end. After the front-end information point cable (super 5 class or 6 class line) enters the equipment room, it first enters the wiring rack, punches the line on the module of the wiring rack, and then uses the jumper (RJ45 interface) to connect the wiring rack and the switch.

In general, the wiring rack is a management device. For example, if there is no wiring rack, the front-end information point will directly access the switch. In this case, once the cable has a problem, it may face rewiring. In addition, management will be more chaotic, and multiple plugging and unplugging may cause damage to the switch port. The existence of the wiring rack solves this problem and can achieve better management by replacing the jumper.

The usage and quantity of the wiring rack are mainly configured according to the total number of network points or the number of network points on this floor (and nearby floors, depending on how the system diagram is designed). Different buildings and different system designs will have different wiring racks in the main equipment room.

For example, a building with only four floors, the main equipment room is set on the first floor, and all floors' network points enter this equipment room, then the number of wiring racks is equal to the total number of network points in the building/wiring rack port number (24 ports, 48 ports, etc.), and a certain amount of margin needs to be added. If a building has 9 floors and the main equipment room is set on the 4th floor, then to avoid cable overlength, there may be sub-equipment rooms on each floor, and there are switching devices. Then the wiring rack in the main equipment room is equal to the number of network points on the 4th floor/wiring rack port number (24 ports, 48 ports, etc.).

II. Reasons for Using Wiring Rack

1.From a design perspective

There is a requirement for integrated wiring, that is, information points need to be able to switch between data and voice points when necessary. That is to say, the same voice point, without changing the wiring, can determine whether it is voice or data by choosing the jumper. In this way, when wiring, the voice point and the data point are the same, the design is very convenient, there is no need to consider separately, and unified equipment can be used.

Large-scale projects have a large number of information points, and the use of jumpers to connect switching equipment and wiring systems can make construction management more convenient, and the cabinets will be very neat. In addition, detection has also become more convenient.

3.From a management and maintenance perspective

This is a concern for large users. The wiring rack can effectively improve work efficiency and reduce error checking time. For the replacement of terminal usage methods, the wiring rack also provides a convenient and fast method.

III. Advantages of Wiring Rack

1.Traditional user line testing methods need to be completed through manual operations, while the centralized online method can use the existing automatic testing system to test the remote office user lines, thereby achieving unattended or less attended.

2.The microcomputer operation of the centralized online method can be combined with the computer integrated management system to achieve automated operation.

3.Centralized online can choose the shortest path for nearby jumpers, only 2-3 meters is needed, saving a lot of jumpers. The traditional jumper method generally requires tens of meters, or even dozens of meters.

4.In the event of moving machines, changing numbers, and engineering reverse lines, traditional methods require a lot of jumpers to be dismantled, and the work is heavy. And the wiring rack card point after multiple card connections will cause the card point to loosen. The centralized online method only needs microcomputer operation to complete, reducing the wear of the card point, extending the life of the wiring rack, and also reducing the occurrence of obstacles.

5.The wiring rack jumper of the centralized online method is completed at one time, avoiding the chaos caused by the traditional method of multiple irregular jumpers, making the appearance of the wiring rack beautiful and neat.

In general, the wiring rack is a device used to standardize network wiring, usually used in network installation (such as LAN, etc.), and used in conjunction with the switch, installed in the cabinet. When considering the use of a wiring rack, we need to consider the remaining amount of optical cable, protective performance, and applicability.
